Sometimes all it takes is one book …

To launch a person on a career

For me that book was Cadillac Desert by Mark Risner.

It was as much history as it was hydrology, and stories as it was science. It was also a book I read over and over (and over) again. Partly to soak in the facts. But just as much because the story was so well told. And so many lessons to learn. Of all the obituaries I remember reading, Edward Abby and Mark Risner come to mind. Why? Both seemed to hold answers to the mystery and riddle of how water resources should best be managed. And not for the sake of ecosystems. Rather, just for the sake of common sense.

Cadillac Desert is a rereadable I got back to time and time again.
